Cape Wind

About the Project

When Jim Gordon first proposed building an offshore wind farm in fabled Nantucket Sound, he had no idea of the firestorm that would erupt. Cape Wind tells the incredible tale of how America's first proposed offshore wind farm triggered a schism in this idyllic coastal region, pitting neighbor against neighbor and environmentalist against environmentalist. Revealing the root causes of their furor, the filmmakers enjoyed unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the key players on both sides of the controversy. The tale frames the battle over Nantucket Sound as a microcosm of America's struggle towards energy sustainability. After 10 years, $70 million and 8000 pages of analysis, the Federal Government approved the wind farm project on April 28th, but the fight has moved to the courts, assuring once again that every time the struggle over Cape Wind seems to be over, a new phase is just beginning.

The Fledgling Fund Impact

The Fledgling Fund is pleased to support post-production for Cape Wind. We believe this film will bring fresh conversations to the controversy over Cape Wind and to potential wind farm sites around the world. Our hope is that these communities will be better prepared to facilitate this process, leading to more widespread wind energy solutions.
