Planeat

About the Project

Planeat is a provocative challenge to our love of meat and dairy. Tracking the work of a group of scientists, doctors and environmentalists, the film forces us to confront the evidence that a heavily animal-based diet is bad for our health, the environment and the future of the planet. With the help of some innovative chefs and farmers, however, we are shown how the urgent environmental and health problems we face today can be solved, without simply resorting to a diet of lentils and lettuce leaves.

The goal is for the film to be a tool which existing NGO campaigns can use to promote the reduction of meat and dairy in Western diets, to get governments to support planet-friendly farming, and to increase the amount of whole, low fat, plant based options provided by food businesses. The film will also be used by food businesses already actively involved in tackling these issues to educate their consumers to make better choices. The film and its accompanying online resources clearly show how individuals in the Western world can make small changes to their diet to benefit their health, environment and planet. By building an online community around the film’s audience who are making changes to their diet, through social networking tools like Facebook and Twitter, the film will be able to broaden the audience reach beyond those who have watched the film, through individuals’ own personal networks.

The Fledgling Fund Impact

The Fledgling Fund is pleased to support the audience engagement for Planeat because this issue is no longer one that we can ignore. The connections between what we eat, how we live, how we feel and our environment are so clear and important and this film and its audience engagement work will help make those connections ever more clear.
