About the Project
The Electron Project is an innovative engagement platform hosted online and in classrooms that educates people about the real costs of their energy use and empowers them to do something about it. Focused on real energy controversies, real projects and local and regional initiatives, the centerpiece of the Electron Project is an interactive website designed to accelerate the sharing of resources and knowledge across communities.Navigated by a unique data-driven graphical interface, the Electron Project is an entirely new way to browse content and engage audiences.
At the website’s homepage a user inputs their zip code, which is then translated using the Electron Project algorithm into an infographic displaying the quantity, type and true costs of the energy resources they consume on a daily basis: literally pounds of smoldering coal, cubic feet of natural gas, barrels of crude oil, maybe watts of wind power, etc. Using the infographic to navigate, users can then explore the Electron Project’s media library by energy source, location and author, or they can click “Plug In” to discover paths to sustainability using the resources, products and services available through the Electron Project and a multitude of commercial and nonprofit partners.
Delivering feature films, user-generated content, educational forums and curricula, contests and more, the Electron Project is designed to turn passive audiences into active participants in the renewable energy revolution. The Electron Project will be launched in conjunction with the release of Cape Spin: An American Power Struggle, a feature documentary about the controversy surrounding the offshore windfarm proposed for Nantucket Sound.
The Fledgling Fund Impact
The Fledgling Fund is excited to support the early development of The Electron Project. This interactive platform will bring life to the issues presented in Cape Spin and enable us to become truly informed power consumers. This is a tool that has the potential to change the energy landscape and affect the way our country's power resources are provided to the marketplace.Project Resources
