About the Project
The United Nations Millennium Campaign is the largest self-empowerment campaign in the history of the world. Its aim: to end poverty across the planet by 2015. In 2010, World Without Walls will partner with the United Nations Millennium Campaign to send a camera to a regular person in each of the 192 United Nations member states. These people will candidly film their lives and answer questions relating to the 8 Millennium Development Goals. The Millennium Development Goals seek to support equal rights and healthcare for women and children, to improve stewardship of the planet, to advocate for universal primary education, to fight disease, to end hunger and poverty. With the BBC News committed to airing over 2000 minutes of World Without Walls programming, these videos will reach over 286 million households. The World Without Walls physical exhibit will have screenings at the Shanghai World Expo, the G8 and G20 summits. This series will become a voice in policy discussion and an active tool to strengthen social movements and increase public engagement.
The project will leverage emerging and low cost technologies. This is the first time low-cost HD video cameras will be distributed globally. This flexibility allows for unprecedented access inside homes, at healthcare centers, inside schools, at environmental sites. Real people can show us what is of concern to them, or what they are most proud of. Personal stories. Global Broadcast.
