The Harvest

About the Project

The Harvest Game, an online companion to Shine Global’s upcoming documentary The Harvest, provides the player with the experience of being a child migrant worker shepherding his/her family through the harvest season, trying to survive the predictable and unpredictable obstacles faced by migrant farmworkers.  The goal is to earn enough points to graduate from high school and either go on to college or work a full time job of their choice.

The game will be available on Facebook, with opportunities to involve friends and to earn money to donate to college scholarship funds for migrant high school students and health care clinics.  Players will also be directed to other sites as sources of more information on child migrant farm laborers and the current legislation affecting farmworkers.

The Harvest documentary will premiere in the winter of 2010-2011.  Directed by U. Roberto Romano, it chronicles the stories of five children and their families as they make their way around the U.S. harvesting the food we all eat.  The game will be available simultaneously.

The Fledgling Fund Impact

The Fledgling Fund is pleased to support The Harvest game with a grant for production. We believe this project has the ability to put players in the shoes of young immigrant workers and truly demonstrate the challenges they face.
